In a Reiki session the aim is to re – balance your 7 main chakras. “Chakra is Sanskrit word meaning ‘wheel’. These energy centres are throughout the body and when balanced the body is healthy and spin freely.
The Chakras are often depicted as lotus flower symbols with a colour like the image above.
When there is an ailment in the body this can be correlated with a chakra imbalance. Each chakra has particular characteristics and emotions which relate to that chakra and physical parts of the body. The seven main chakras, the Sanskrit word, related emotions, characteristics and mantra sound are:
English | Hindu/Sanskrit | Related Emotions & Characteristics | Mantra Sound | |
1. | The base/root | Muladhara | Survival, stability, grounding | Lam |
2. | Sacral | Swadhishthana | Emotions, fertility, passion, intimacy | Vam |
3. | Solar Plexus | Manipura | Vitality, sense of self, empowerment, identity and authority | Ram |
4. | Heart | Anahata | Love, oneness with nature, harmony between body, mind and surroundings | Yam |
5. | Throat | Vishuddha | Creativity, communication, truth, expressiveness, | Ham |
6. | Third Eye | Ajna | Intuition | Ksham |
7. | Crown | Sahasrara | Cosmic Insight | Om |
The above table is a snapshot.
Throughout a Reflexology treatment, chakras are also affected by the treatment and is aimed at re balancing the chakras remembering, the aim of Reflexology is to aid the body to come back to a state of homeostasis.
